Education has always been very important to me. As a female within a family of mostly males, I received the gift of determination and drive. My siblings were all older so their instinct was to teach their little sister to defend herself, which is what older siblings usually do. They helped me learn to never give up and fight for what I want to achieve in life. Unfortunately, none of my brothers completed high school. Instead they joined the working world or served in the military. However, with their confidence in me, I was the first in my home to graduate from high school and receive a college degree. I dropped out of high school for a year due to personal issues, but I made it my priority to return.

I continued my higher education after I had a family of my own and I found it to be a very rewarding challenge. I obtained an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Fullerton College in California. My field of study was not education; however, I welcome my work in this field, especially since it has to do with everything that surrounds us. Working at ESCORT, I have learned that there are starving minds that need to be fed. This motivates me to do my job the best way I know how. This pushes me to learn more and understand the difficulties that face the young generation that will be our future.

I have been with ESCORT for two years now and my knowledge of the world of migrant education has grown immensely. I have learned that education is a very big field that I want to explore. My current position consists of data entry, quality control and supervising part-time employees. I welcome new challenges and hope that my determination for greatness will prevail within this organization for years to come. The motivation I have for working with ESCORT comes from the educators that surround me, the belief that I can make a difference and my desire for knowledge.

Anna provides data support for the ESCORT South office by tackling the immense task of transferring all the Florida Certificates of Eligibility and Out-of-School Youth information onto a database that she designed.
