Literacy Coaching

Literacy

In recent years coaching has gained popularity as a preferred mode of professional learning for educators. This is in large part due to the Reading First Initiative of No Child Left Behind.

M.C. Moran, former Senior Literacy Specialist at the Eastern Stream Center, has developed a model of coaching in collaboration with her colleague Elizabeth Powers, senior project associate at the Mid-Atlantic Comprehensive Center.

In the Literacy Coaching Continuum, coaching is viewed as an array of formats that address the professional learning needs of educators. Subsequent decisions about the best delivery design is a collaborative choice to be made by the coach and the teacher(s).
